(2) Textbook with CD
Required Textbook: June Jamrich Parsons, Dan Oja (2008). New Perspectives on Computer Concepts (11th ed.), Introductory. Cambridge, MA: Thomas. ISBN 10: 1-4239-2517-3; ISBN 13: 978-1-4239-2517-0.
A CD called “BookOnCD” is enclosed with your textbook. You will find it in a CD pocket attached to your textbook. The CD contains an electronic version of your textbook, as well as hands-on labs for some assignments. If your copy of the textbook does not include the CD, you are not receiving the full value of your purchase and may want to contact the bookstore to get a new copy of the textbook. Under Session 01, you will learn how to use the Book-on-CD to access the textbook contents and for use with your first hands-on-lab.
(3) high-speed Internet access
All course materials will be available online, including many multimedia demonstrations and lectures. You need to have high-speed Internet access to review the materials.
(4) a Windows PC for the first half of the semester
The textbook CD only works in Windows. Some newer models of Mac that can run windows applications may be acceptable, but you need to test your Mac to make sure the textbook CD works.
(5) a headphone
We have extensive video and audio materials for this online course, you need a headphone to listen and watch lectures and demos.
(6) Shockwave Flash Player plug-in
In order to watch shockwave flash videos (swf files), you must have installed the Shockwave Flash Player plug-in on your computer. If you do not have this plug-in, you can download it from: Shockwave Player. Follow the instructions to install it.
