Kent State University Hosts 2008 Aviation Heritage Fair, Sept. 6 (8/15/08)
Kent State University’s Aeronautics Program once again will host families from throughout the region during the 2008 Aviation Heritage Fair. The fair is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kent State University Airport in Stow, Ohio. An average of nearly 25,000 people typically attend the event, which is now in its 14th year.

Kent State Doctoral Student, NEOUCOM Researcher Finds that Rapid Growth Aided Dinosaur Survival (8/6/08)
A study recently published in a prestigious scientific journal and lead authored by Kent State doctoral student Lisa Noelle Cooper offers proof that rapid growth proved to be an advantage to dinosaurs that lived at the same time as the ferocious Tyrannosaurus Rex. With long limbs and a soft body, the duck-billed hadrosaur had few defenses against predators such as tyrannosaurs, most commonly known as the T-Rex. But the new research on the bones of this plant-eating dinosaur suggests that it had at least one advantage: It grew to adulthood much faster than its predators, giving it superiority in size.
Alternative Fuel Vehicles Featured on Kent State Campus (8/4/08)
Kent State University’s Department of Campus Environment and Operations will host an Alternative Fuel Vehicle Rodeo on Tuesday, Aug. 5, and Wednesday, Aug. 6, during the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. forthe entire community. The rodeo will take place both days at Risman Plaza on the Kent Campus.
Kent State Aeronautics Students Earn Second Place in Federal Aviation Administration Airport Design Competition (8/1/08)
A team of four Kent State aeronautics students recently finished second in the 2008 Federal Aviation Administration Airport Design Competition for Universities. Their project, titled “Light Emitting Diodes: An Efficient Choice for Airfield Lighting,” earned the award in the category of Airport Environmental Interactions Challenges.
Photo Opportunity: Kent State Hosts Aviation Camp for High School Girls, July 20-22 (7/18/08)
Kent State University’s Aeronautics Program, in partnership with the International Women’s Air and Space Museum, will host the second annual Nikki Kukwa Memorial Aviation Camp on Sunday, July 20, through Tuesday, July 22, on the Kent Campus. The camp serves as an academic outreach and residential program for high school girls and their mothers, introducing young women to the many career opportunities available in aviation and space.
New Bachelor’s Program for Working Adults (7/16/08)
Kent State University will soon offer a new bachelor of applied career studies major to address the evolving needs of adult learners in the state. The first-of-its-kind program would allow students to draw on their competencies based on both life and career experiences and the individual’s learning needs.
Third Annual Piano Institute Brings Young Virtuosi to Campus (7/14/08)
Kent State University’s Hugh A. Glauser School of Music and the College of Continuing Studies will host the third annual Piano Institute Sunday, July 20, through Wednesday, July 30. This program will allow seventh through 12th grade students the opportunity to participate in 11 days of an intensive combination of piano lessons, master classes and performance opportunities.
Cleveland’s Ingenuity Festival to Feature Kent State Projects in 3-D (7/10/08)
Cleveland’s Fourth Annual Ingenuity Festival, a celebration of art and technology, will feature technology-come-to-life inventions and creations that have their genesis at Kent State University. The three-day festival gets underway on Friday, July 25 at Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland, and promises to dazzle participants until its conclusion on Sunday, July 27.
Ormiston Named Marshall University Provost (07/10/08)
Dr. Gayle L. Ormiston, associate provost for faculty affairs and curriculum, has been appointed senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at Marshall University, Provost Robert G. Frank announced today. Ormiston will assume his administrative role at Marshall on Aug. 18.
Dalton Named Dean of College of Architecture and Environmental Design (7/7/08)
James Dalton, interim dean for the College of Architecture and Environmental Design, has accepted an extended two-year appointment as dean of the CAED, announced Provost Robert G. Frank. A search will be launched near the end of his appointment for a new dean of the College of Architecture and Environmental Design.
Stevens to Return to Teaching in 2009 (7/7/08)
After serving more than 20 years as an academic administrator, 13 at Kent State University, Dr. George Stevens has announced his decision to return to teaching full-time as professor of management & information systems, effective July 1, 2009. During the 2008-2009 academic year, Stevens will lead the college in a strategic review to identify areas of opportunity for the college to address in years to come.

Participants are needed for a Kent State University/Summa Health System study on the effects of mindfulness-based stress reduction and progressive muscle relaxation on people with prehypertension. UWIRE, a membership organization for college student media, announced yesterday the inaugural UWIRE 100, which honors the nation’s top 100 collegiate journalists. Kent State junior Christopher Sharron, an editorial cartoonist with the Daily Kent Stater, and Stow native, was honored as one of the UWIRE 100, selected from more than 500 nominations submitted by students and educators at 132 schools.
Kent State Students Win Statewide Do It Now Organ Donation Promotion Competition (5/22/08)
Kent State public relations students won the statewide “Do It Now” College Competition, which was aimed at increasing the number of organ and tissue donors in the Ohio Organ Donor Registry. Funded by the Second Chance Trust Fund, Donate Life Ohio, its affiliated organ procurement organizations and tissue and eye recovery agencies, partnered with the colleges throughout the state to significantly increase the number of registered organ and tissue donors.

A Kent State University expert in the vitality of fresh water ecosystems will speak at a screening of a film that describes the health history of the Cuyahoga River. Dr. Robert Heath, director of the Kent State University Water Resources Research Institute, will speak at the second annual “Who’s Your Mama?” Earth Day Festival, on Sunday, April 20. Heath’s remarks will precede the screening of “The Return of the Cuyahoga,” an environmental film which takes a look at the life, death and rebirth of one of America’s most polluted rivers.
Kent State English Professor Nominated For Cleveland Arts Prize (4/14/08)
Roger Craik, associate professor of English at the Kent State University Ashtabula campus, was recently nominated for the Cleveland Arts Prize. Established in 1960, the Cleveland Arts Prize recognizes the accomplishments of mid-career fine artists with a connection to Northeast Ohio. Two prizes are awarded each year to artists who have received national, regional or local acclaim for their body of work. The public can nominate artists from the visual arts, music, dance, literature and design fields. It is the oldest award of its kind in the United States.

Computerized Mannequins Provide Human-like Responses For Future Health Professionals(11/2/07)
High-tech, human-like computerized mannequins help educate tomorrow's health care professionals. Patient simulators at the Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy (NEOUCOM) enhance learning and allow complex information and procedures to be learned and practiced more effectively. The center employs full-body computerized mannequins and task trainers (devices that simulate specific body parts) such as airways and limbs, so that students may practice procedures.

TheSumma Health System study is on the effects of mindfulness-based stress reduction and progressive muscle relaxation on people with prehypertension. The Stress Management in Lifestyle Enhancement (SMiLE) study is an eight-week program that examines whether or not adding stress management to a healthy lifestyle will help lower blood pressure.
